Overwalls* (2007-2008)

If the wall should leaky-leak
Into your home a draught should peek
Take some fasteners and fastenees**
And don a pair of these!

Used denim rarely lies or hangs flat, so if you prefer a straight-laced and smooth aesthetic, you may wish to buy your fabric new.

*This project was inspired by the predominance of draughty Pilsen apartments, which are home to many families and artists and families of artists. An extension of this project might echo those heavy velvet curtains that hang in the doorways of Budapest's fine libraries and museums to block cold air from entering and warm air from exiting.

**Ripped jeans were salvaged for $1 or less per pair at Unique Thrift Store (3000 S. Halsted St., Chicago, IL) and then reconstructed with the help of a Brother® LS-1520 sewing machine. Scraps of bias tape (both single- and double-fold, though I prefer double-fold for its easier installation) were acquired from my grandmother's basement in Massachusetts.
